Megaraptor (lit. 'large thief') is a genus of large theropod dinosaur that lived in the ages of the Late Cretaceous. Its fossils have been discovered in the Patagonian Portezuelo Formation of Argentina, South America.

Megaraptor. Name: Megaraptor ‭(‬Giant Thief‭)‬. Phonetic: Meg-ah-rap-tor. Named By: Novas‭ ‬-‭ ‬1998. Classification: Chordata,‭ ‬Reptilia,‭ ‬Dinosauria,‭ ‬Saurischia,‭ ‬Theropoda,‭ ‬Allosauroidea,‭ ‬Neovenatoridae,‭ ‬Megaraptora. Species: M.‭ ‬namunhuaiquii‭ (‬type‭)‬. Diet: Carnivore.

Novas (1998) tentatively referred Megaraptor to the derived theropod clade Coelurosauria, primarily based on the gracile proportions of the third metatarsal of the holotype specimen. Recovery and description of additional Megaraptor remains by Calvo et al. allowed for some clarification of the taxon's affinities.

the tail, thereby enabling comparison with the proximal caudals of Megaraptor namunhuaiquii10, Orkoraptor burkei 35 , and Aerosteon riocoloradensis 14,34 . ˚e holotype of Maip macrothorax also ...

Palaeontologists have found the fossils of a new megaraptor in Patagonia, in the south of Argentina. Megaraptors were large carnivorous dinosaurs with long arms and claws measuring up to 35cm ...

Paleontologists from the Argentine Museum of Natural Sciences said on Monday they found the 70-million-year-old remains of a megaraptor, making it one of the last carnivorous dinosaurs to inhabit ...

The completeness of the Australovenator type specimen has been fundamental to our current understanding of megaraptorid anatomy and phylogenetic hypotheses, and provided robust comparative data that have permitted the assignment of numerous isolated theropod specimens from the mid-Cretaceous of New South Wales [34,35] and Victoria [1,9] to ...

In the new century, new finds changed our image of Utahraptor again. In 2001 a graduate student roaming around Moab spotted what initially looked like a human arm bone in an area of Early ...

Notably, although the first manual ungual of Megaraptor is large, as in some megalosauroids (e.g. Charig and Milner 1997), its detailed morphology is distinctive. In Megaraptor , the ungual is transversely narrow, with a ratio of proximal height to width of 2.75 (Fig. 1g-h ).

Reuters. INFO. Fossils of megaraptors, a carnivorous dinosaur that inhabited parts of South America during the Cretaceous period some 70 million years ago, are found in sizes up to 10 meters long.
